1.9 DG Carb 2e3 Itchyinfo

Itchyfeet

Just the Pierburg 2e3 fuel delivery and ignition. Fault finding, service and repairs. LPG included as this is a common addition

Not the engine it’s self there are loads of build threads on that

Most of the pics are from my late DG but the early DG is very similar with regard to the fuel and ignition system

Ignition module

Coil ( note earth point hiding underneath)

LPG

Typical mixer ring on top of pierburg ( needs longer studs to ‘pancake’ trunking

Typical twin power valve in pipe from vapouriser to mixer ring, one valve for primary one for secondary throttles.

Typical single power valve for both throttles

Typical vaporiser ( this is an OMVL brand)

Typical fuel cut off valve and bypass switch ( bypass to get you home on pertol if the LPG system fails)

Typical LPG controller switch in cab

Typical Blos ( used in place of mixer ring)

Backfire protection ‘Cat flap’ in the pancake

Some people have suffered repeated backfire when on LPG which destroys the pancake even with a backfire protection valve, there is air fuel mix in the pancake and these can be warped over years of heating, sparks may well be responsible so a tip here from Patrick

patrickpawsey
run an earth lead from the carb to a suitable earth point which resolves the ‘sparks from the carb’ issue (there is an electrical feed to the carb and the return via the engine block/inlet manifold is not always great any more so sparks can jump from the carb to the nearest earth, not what you want in the engine bay
